8 Ways Husbands Can Support Modern-Day Women

Almost every modern woman is trying to have it all. A career, a family, a love life, a social life, and maybe even squeeze in time to go to the gym. The good news is that married people don’t have to do it all on their own. As a husband, you might wonder how to make things a little easier for your wife.

Here are 15 Easy Ways to Support your Wife:

1. Do your domestic duties

The most obvious way is to make sure you’re pulling your weight in the household. This means doing your fair share of household chores, home planning and administration, and childcare. It’s difficult for any woman to pursue a career or other personal goals if they are also in charge of the vast majority of domestic labour. Do your bit.

2. Show interest in the small details of her day

After a day of work, ask how her day was, not just to be polite but to get to know the details. It shows that you care about her life, not just the highlights. You might also be surprised by all the little things she experiences on a regular basis.

3. Promote her work and interests

Gas her up! If she has a business, don’t shut up about it! Tell your friends, co-workers, family, and even your mailman about it. Show up to her events. Do the same for any of her personal passions or projects. As a husband, being a strong part of your wife’s support network is important to her success.

4. Plan a week

Most women are socialized to take on the majority of the mental load in a household. This refers to all the “invisible labour” like logistics and administration. If your wife is feeling overwhelmed, take over the household’s mental load for a week or a few days and it will make a world of difference. Some examples are tracking bills, deciding meals to eat that week, making grocery lists, planning the children’s extra-curricular activities, making doctor’s appointments, noticing anything broken and getting it fixed, delegating chores, remembering and planning social duties like birthdays and holidays, the list goes on.

5. Talk

I don’t mean just your daily quick conversation about who’s picking up the kids from school. When was the last time you had a long conversation about nothing? Just lay in bed and talked about whatever you felt like for hours? Taking time to share even mundane thoughts with your wife is a great way to maintain an intimate mental connection. This is the kind of thing couples often do at the beginning of a relationship but neglect as time goes by.

6. Focus on her love languages

Learn to identify the love languages your wife appreciates the most. If she likes words of affirmation, always remind her how much you love and appreciate her and how proud you are of her. If she likes physical touch, give her foot rubs and massages, hold her hand and kiss her more often. If she likes gifts, pick up her favourite snack or drink after work, buy or even hand-make her something personal to her taste. If she likes quality time, try picking up a shared hobby. Just having a TV show, you watch together makes a difference. If she likes acts of service, run her personal errands, or plan an elaborate date night.

7. Get nostalgic

Go down memory lane. It’s usually a good idea to reminisce or even recreate good memories from your past. You could go out to visit where you first met, look at your wedding photos and videos together or get her some token that represents a happy time early in your relationship. There’s so much to be grateful for when you stop and reflect.

8. No Matter What

You should be your wife’s biggest cheerleader. With these ideas, you can make her days easier and brighter. Tag the men in your life who need to see this!
