Walk along the high line
Manhattan’s Chelsea district is home to the High Route. A former elevated train line turned pedestrian promenade. But it also offers free events all year long, such as meditation classes, tai chi, stargazing, garden tours, and screenings of films. The Park is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the West Side from 34th Street to Gansevoort Street. Weekend trips necessitate making a reservation online in advance. This is one of the favorite dating activities for many couples in New York.

Visit Guggenheim Museum
Visiting this museum is highly considered by many families visiting New York City as a family activity. There is a world-class collection of impressionists, modern, and contemporary art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the structure, and it is almost as well-known for the artists who work there as they are.

Stand under lanterns in China town
The new lighting fixtures, which the Light Up Chinatown Project installed, are meant to brighten the neighborhood during these gloomy times while encouraging locals and tourists to visit the district’s shuttered eateries and shops. The lights create a magnificent effect — the luminaries give the impression of being lit in celebration, despite the dire economic circumstances. This has attracted much attention and Instagram posts. Indeed, a favorite dating activity for couples.

Bryant Park fun and games
Bryant Park’s various free events are another free activity in NYC that is well worth doing. There is a park called Bryant Park on 42nd Street between Times Square and the New York Public Library. Day after day, Bryant Park offers free activities like juggling instruction and pickleball to the public. Kids can get to enjoy these activities more.

Kayaking
Most people are astonished to hear that kayaking in New York City is entirely free! In 20-minute intervals, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse provides this service free of charge to the general public. To guarantee your place and make a reservation as soon as possible. The view of the Manhattan skyline from here is spectacular! Be sure to take your family for a kayaking venture as a family activity this fall.

Picnic in the Central Park
Picnics here offer great family activities. Want to enjoy your dinner with a trillion-dollar view? You don’t have to spend a zillion dollars to accomplish this, either! Central Park is the perfect place for a relaxing picnic, and being so close to Central Park makes this one of my favorite free things to do in NYC. The best time to experience Central Park is spring, summer, and fall. Before your picnic, go for a rowboat ride near the Loeb Boathouse, and maybe rent a Citi Bike to bike around the Park.

Visit MoMa museum
MoMA is the world-famous Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and it houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of contemporary art. Along with paintings, you’ll find sculptures, photography, media, and architecture. From the late 1800s to the present, famous artists include Dali, Cezanne, Matisse, Warhol, Pollock, and Picasso. Be sure to consider this as your kids’ activity, as they will love seeing the fantastic sculptures this fall.

Free Ride on the Staten Island Ferry
You can inquire about the most affordable route to see the Statue of Liberty. People would generally direct you to Manhattan’s Whitehall Terminal. It’s free to ride the Staten Island Ferry to get right up close to the statue, and it’s a beautiful 25-minute ride. Many opt to tag along with their families and spouses.

Visit Bronx Zoo
The New York Zoo is a family tradition for many New Yorkers, and with over 6,000 species to choose from, everyone in your family is likely to find something they love. Exhibits in a naturalistic environment allow you to see the animals without worrying about being in a cage.

Bonus: Watch movies with a view at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Suppose you come in the shoulder season (August). Brooklyn Bridge Park hosts free outdoor movies, and I believe it is the best of them all. It’s a free thing to do in New York City that’s well worth going out of your way to do! To ensure that everyone could see clearly, they placed the viewing screen at the foot of a hill. Either side of the screen provides breathtaking views of the Manhattan Skyline on. Pack a picnic lunch for your date to get the most out of your visit.
