Five Reasons to Watch Sex/Life on Netflix

The Netflix hit show Sex/Life is back for a second season, and we are here for it! The first season introduced us to Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi), a housewife to a wealthy husband living a seemingly idyllic life. After two children, her sex life with her husband Cooper became dull and repetitive, and she longs for her party girl days with steamy sexual pursuits. She crosses paths with her ex Brad, and soon finds herself yearning for her past life.

Season one was a tangle of love triangles and desire, and ended in a thrilling cliffhanger. After nearly two years, Netflix has finally brought us a second season. It picks up six months after the events of the season one finale, with surprising new pairings.

Intrigued? So are we!

Here are five reasons to watch Sex/Life on Netflix

1. Women Empowerment

Billie encourages herself and her friends to step out of their comfort zones and go after their desires instead of just being what men think they should be. As women, we are expected to look pretty, be submissive, be strong and be caretakers. Underneath the shell, we are often scared, overworked, uncomfortable, stressed-out overachievers. This show gives you the courage to speak up and demand to be heard.

2. Learn to Face your Decisions

Are you living your truth? Are you happy with where you are now? Are you happy with the person you’re sharing your space with?

“One of the most important decisions you’ll ever make is who to spend your life with,” Billie says in the trailer for the new season. In season one we saw her facing the consequences of settling into a safe, secure life with Cooper. But with that security, she lost all the excitement and adventure of her old life.

This show will help you hold a mirror up to your own life. Are you happy with the path you took? If you could go back in time, what would you change?

3. Can Women Have It All?

This show might help you answer the age-old question; can women have it all? Sasha Snow’s (Margaret Odette) message is “I’m not asking you to sacrifice anything. What I’m saying is why not try for it all”. Her career is tested when her fans find out she is in a committed relationship. She must choose between having it all or having love.

In today’s society women are given this choice on a daily: should I have a career or start a family? Should I be the CEO or the wife of a CEO? Why can’t we have it all?

4. It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

Sex/Life also deals with themes of loss, grief and major life transitions. During these transitions, it’s important for us to stop and check our mental health. It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to want a support system and to be around loved ones during difficult times. This show will give you the courage to be vulnerable and accept that we all need help sometimes.

5. Free-Spirited Sex is Liberating

No Judgment here. Sex/Life shows us that women of all backgrounds share the common denominator of having a strong desire to express themselves sexually. You can be a mom and want hot sex, you can lead a boardroom and want amazing sex, you can climb the corporate ladder and want hot sex, you can run a Fortune 500 company and want sex in the Coney Island Ferris Wheel.

Whoever you are, embrace the freedom of pursuing a fulfilling sex life.
