xoSelf: Am I Pretty Enough to be an Influencer?

xoSelf (short for Love Yourself)) is a weekly advice series where women can anonymously seek advice on topics about relationships, work, finding themselves or life challenges. xoSelf is responded to by educator & life coach Dr. Walter Hidalgo.

Dear xoSelf: My boyfriend is super supportive of me and everything that I want to become. However, I told him that I wanted to be an Influencer, and he told me that for him, I’m pretty enough but not for social media. He said that I’m not the type that will make a lot of money. I’m curvy, boyish, with bad skin. I told him there are plenty of plus size influencers with all styles, but he said they have enough money for nice clothes, photographers, and the lifestyle to be interesting. I am passionate about doing this, but I feel discouraged by what he says. I know I should ignore him, but is he right? Am I not good enough?

Answer:

Yes….YOU….ARE…..ENOUGH!   Without knowing the entire story, I will ask that you absolutely pursue your dream and passion, because that’s what is worth living for!  How do you know you are alive if you don’t take chances in life?  You will always encounter people and circumstances that will hold you down, but it is up to you to get back up!  I am sure your partner means well and really wants you to succeed.  However, the decision is ultimately up to you.  As my father constantly said to me: “son, this is YOUR life.”  Ergo, because this is YOUR life, I am going to ask you: What are you going to do about it!? Good luck!
