Easter will be on Sunday 9th April this year, which is just around the corner. As you probably know, Easter is a Christian holiday. However, even if you aren’t religious, Easter is a great opportunity to spend time with your family.
Want some fun family-friendly activities to do with your kids on Easter Sunday?
We compiled 3 fun simple DIYs to do with your kids during Easter this year:
1. Tie-Dye Cool Whip Easter Eggs
The custom of Easter eggs dates back to early Christianity. While the traditional intricately-painted Easter eggs are beautiful to look at, they’re too time-consuming for most busy moms to make. Not to worry! You can create fast tie-dye Easter eggs which are so simple that even your kids can join. You need only three ingredients; cool whip or whipped cream, liquid food dye and hard-boiled eggs.
Quick Tip: If you use brown eggs, avoid yellow, orange or brown dye as they might not show up well on the brown shell. You have free reign with white eggs.
Place some cool whip in a bowl then put a few drops of different colors of food dye into the bowl. Gently swirl the mixture around with a teaspoon then place your eggs in the bowl and cover them with the mixture. Place in the fridge for thirty minutes. After you take them out, rinse them off to reveal beautiful colors stained into the eggs. These make a great addition to a backyard Easter egg hunt. Admire your work then snack on the eggs at the end of the day.
Quick Swap: If you can’t access cool whip or whipped cream, shaving foam also gets the job done BUT the eggs won’t be edible if you use shaving foam.
Easter Bunny Gingerbread Houses
Gingerbread isn’t only for Christmas. You can have a fun day making and decorating Easter Bunny houses out of gingerbread. All you need is gingerbread, royal icing to act as glue, candy to decorate, and Peeps candy or a chocolate bunny to represent the little Easter bunny in its house! Best part? It’s all edible – so unlike most DIY crafts for kids, you won’t be left with a heap of paper or thread to throw out later.
Quick Swap: If gingerbread is too much of a hassle, you could just use graham crackers for a cheaper option that is perfect for a smaller Easter Bunny House.
3. No-Sew Sock Easter Bunnies
Not a fan of DIYs that involve extra dishes or kitchen messes? This one’s for you. Some good old-fashioned arts and crafts are great for developing children’s motor skills. These sock Easter Bunnies make use of old or mismatched socks that you probably had no use for, no sewing required! Your kids can gift these Easter bunny decorations to their friends and teachers, or keep them year after year as cute seasonal décor. You’ll need socks, raw rice, rubber bands, scissors, a marker and ribbons (optional).
Place the sock over a cup to make it easier to pour rice into it. Pour a cup of rice into the sock. Take a rubber band and tie the sock closed, leaving some loose fabric at the top of the sock. Take a second rubber band and place it in the middle of the sock-ball of rice to create a separation between the bunny’s head and body. Using a marker, trace out bunny ears on the loose fabric at the top, then cut out the excess fabric around the shape. Draw on eyes and ears. For a more polished look, add a fancy ribbon around the neck. There you go, a fast simple Easter Bunny made of a sock!
