For Memorial Day weekend I mixed a bit of business with pleasure. I packed up and headed down to Washington, DC, not only to BBQ with family, but also to attend the first annual Prince George’s Literary Festival. The event was put together by the fabulous Sharon Lucas, who is also the founder of the famous Black Authors & Readers Rock Weekend. I wasn’t sure what to expect for the first #springbookfestival, but to my surprise I was greeted by warm smiles and great conversation with authors and residents who came out to support the literacy movement. The funniest part of the event had to have been my grandmother explaining to people who stopped by my table what I do, considering she doesn’t know what I do. After hearing me explain it a few times to interested minds, she did happen to grasp that I help creative entrepreneurs with social media management and business coaching. To hear her repeat it though was another story, “Do you have a business, my granddaughter can you help with the Tweet . . . Twitter(er) accounts?” Priceless!
The genres present ranged from Christian fiction, sci-fi thrillers, and children’s books to quality fiction and romance. No matter what your literary appetite was craving, you could find it here. My digital bookshelf will be full through the fall. I have some amazing selections to check out over the next few weeks.
Here is a list of some of the authors and their books from the event. Check them out and let me know what you think. I will be posting reviews of the books as I read them.
