Fall in Love with Ahyiana Angel

Ahyiana Angel_Awst PhotographyAhyiana Angel strives to motivate and spread positivity one word at a time. With at least twelve years of experience in the entertainment industry, she has had great success as a publicist, a contemporary brand stylist, and, of course, a writer. Her first novel, Preseason Love, was published less than a year after being written , and ever since then she has been on the move! I’m so glad she was able to slow down a bit to give us more insight into her purpose as a writer, but she’s so much more. Ahyiana does it all, and yet she manages to share her knowledge and advice with other writers, bloggers, publicists, and any entrepreneur who wants to excel in their field. She certainly has the key to unlocking your ambitions and transforming them from dreams in your head to a successful reality.

What challenges have you had as an author and as a contemporary brand stylist?

Put simply, plenty. Before writing I was a publicist so I was used to pushing others to the forefront and allowing them to shine, but it’s different when you have to put yourself out there. It’s been tough trying to get my name out there as a writer. Realizing that all the marketing and promotion of your books and your brand is up to you can be tough as well. I found myself doing everything on my own, but I also learned a great deal by being hands on.

What motivates you to continue despite the obstacles that a writer faces?

The obstacles can be daunting at times, but my family is what motivates me to continue. I want to show them what is possible. I want them to see that when you dream big and put in the work some of the most amazing things can happen.

What do you believe is your purpose as a writer?

Off the pages: to foster a sense of community and encourage women to willingly support one another. On the pages: I think my purpose is to tell more of the stories that young urban professional women can relate to. They need to see and feel themselves in characters. We need more stories that will make the younger generation dream bigger and aspire to do more.

You’ve spoken at events and panels and are considered an amazing encourager. Why do you think people, specifically young women, are drawn to your approach?

I’m real. I give straight talk and I don’t push fluff or misleading crap. I’ve had my fair share of unique experiences in this life and I’m always willing to share if it will help someone else. I truly want to see everyone win, and I think that people can see and feel when you are genuine.

“Behind every super woman that I admire, there is a selfless woman that inspires.” Who is the number one woman who inspires you and why?

I can’t pinpoint one because I’m truly inspired every single day by the people around me as well as those I observe from a distance. I’m of the mind-set that you should use the wins and achievements of others, within your industry as well as outside it, to push you and inspire you to do and achieve more. My inspirations are based on a collective .

Do you have any projects or books you are currently working on?

Yes. I just released my first free novella, Inside His Heart , so I’m working on promoting that. I’m also working on the follow-up to Preseason Love. The title has not been confirmed yet. Then I have another novella I’m finishing up, plus I’ve been laying the ground work for a nonfiction work that will likely be encouragement and inspiration based.

Is there going to be another LATH (Life According to Her)?

There are no immediate plans, but it is not out of the question so we will see.

What advice would you give an aspiring author?

Do your industry research and identify your goals in terms of writing early on so that you can make sure everything aligns with those goals.

Being thankful for another day, a little light reading, then a social media check.

If you could invite any woman to dinner, who would it be?

Beyoncé, because her marketing savvy is above average. I would want to get her to share details and her thought processes about marketing . I would like to soak up as much of her creative energy and overall knowledge as I can.
