Unlock the Key to Getting Funding for Your Business

Are you afraid to speak up and tell a crowded room about your business? Afraid of what they may think or say speak-upabout you? Don’t be. It is time for you to Speak Up and tell the world about your business. Many innovators and fresh entrepreneurs are afraid to speak about their company and even more scared to seek funding. You cannot be afraid to ask for an investment.  Here is an exercise that will get you up and out of your comfort zone.

Get your business plan ready. Prepare your sixty-second “elevator” pitch. Pack your bag with plenty of business cards. Research three venture capitals or investors in your area. Find the companies’ addresses. The next morning put on your best interview attire. Head over to the company where you will be greeted by a receptionist. Give her your sixty-second pitch. Begin with your name, the name of your company, and take it from there. Of course, at around 20–25 seconds you will possibly be cut off and she will say you need an appointment. Kindly thank her for her time, leave a business card, and exit without fanfare. Do not expect to be meeting with an investor on this day unless you get extremely lucky. However, by the time you get around to the third company your nerves should be less rattled about pitching your business idea to people who could potentially change your life. After all, at any given moment when speaking to a receptionist she could very well say, “Follow me.”

Good Luck.

*Footnote: Look for small-firm investors who won’t have lobby security guards that will block you from making your way upstairs.
