Oh Beyoncé, you’ve done it yet again. You #broketheInternet by releasing yet another surprise video, “Formation,” the day before Super Bowl 50, causing an Internet frenzy. The day of the big game, thanks to your halftime performance with Bruno Mars and Coldplay, your social media slay continued and you announced your Formation World Tour, which caused your website to crash. Queen Bey, you are living proof that if you build a community they will come. Your Beyhive has never been stronger, constantly present and engaging.
Here are some other women who continue to slay social media.
Michelle Obama.
One of the most popular and social media–driven first ladies to date. Michelle is constantly causing a trending frenzy over her outfits, dance-offs, move-it videos, or just her adorable photos cuddling/cooing with her handsome hubby, President Obama.
Jada Pinkett Smith.
Typically it’s her children that you’ll find in the social media trend zone; however, her statement about boycotting the Oscars caused quite the stir, due to the lack of diversity. A celebrity with a voice that takes a stands will always raise the Facebook shares and likes, but Jada’s call to action took it to a whole new level, even getting her honey Will Smith and Spike Lee on board.
Rihanna.
Oh bad girl RiRi! Love her or hate her, if you’re on social media you’ve seen her on the regular. I’m sure you’ve seen her Samsung commercial promoting her new AntiWorld Tour. The Samsung-sponsored tour will kick off this month. For an even sweeter deal RiRi inked a $25 million deal with Samsung for her Anti album. Sound familiar? In 2013 Jay Z (the one responsible for discovering and signing RiRi to Def Jam) penned a historic deal with Samsung to release the first million copies of his Magna Carta . . . Holy Grail for free.
Taraji P. Henson.
By now I’m sure you’ve heard of this little show on Fox called #Empire. Taraji plays Cookie Lyons, the ex-wife of mogul hip-hop artist Luscious Lyons. Taraji has done such an incredible job with this role that she has made herself a household name in the African American community. Taraji A.K.A. Cookie is a popular remake and comedian skit on YouTube and Instagram. The “social media trend” saying goes “What would Cookie Lyons do/say?”
There are so many women doing it big on social media that we have a lot of motivation to do the same. So ladies, how are you slaying social media?
