So your alarm clock fails to go off, you wake up with only thirty minutes to get to work, and you’re in a panic, saying to yourself, “My hair is a mess! What am I going to do with it? First off, relax! Your fellow Naturalista @love_your_natural has you covered, Queen! With so many natural hairstyles to choose from for the workplace, I’ve narrowed it down to five quick hairstyles that will have your coworkers in awe and have you looking and feeling like a star!
Below are hair inspiration photos I’ve selected from Instagram courtesy of @Corporatekinks, which features businesswomen rocking their natural tresses in their corporate environment just like you. The Instagram names of the natural-hair beauties featured are also included.
Look at number one: @_findingkb styled her natural hair by parting it in two large sections. For this style you can either part your hair down the middle or on the side, as her hair is styled in the photo. Next you do two jumbo flat twists on each side for added sleekness and neat results. Then add olive-oil edge control to your edges. With a bristle brush, brush the edge control into your hair. (Do this step before you begin your flat twist.) Finally, with two bobby pins take the two twists, crisscross them, and use both pins to hold the twists in place on each side.
The second hairstyle is the classic twist-out, shown in this photo of @crazysexycurlee. The night before, part your hair down the middle, then to damp hair apply your favorite leave-in conditioner and oil to seal in moisture. Next make four sections in your hair; in each section make four jumbo twists (for extra curl definition you can make your twists smaller). You should have a total of sixteen twists in your hair. Wrap your hair with a silk scarf. The following morning, unravel all your twists (gently) and you’re out the door. No extra styling needed as your hair will get bigger throughout the week!
The third style is the infamous “top knot bun” as seen in this photo of @_moreissa. To re-create this look, preferably on twist-out or braid-out hair, part your hair from ear to ear horizontally and use an elastic band to gather all your hair in the back to get it out of the way for the moment. Then, add the edge control of your choice to your hair and brush it through. Once your hair is in place, make a ponytail with the elastic band and wrap your hair around your ponytail, creating your top knot bun, and secure it with bobby pins. Then let the back of your hair out and you’re all done!
Hairstyle number four as seen on @senorita_sylivia is rocking another classic natural hairstyle, the “Wash and Go.” To achieve this look on wet hair divide your hair into four sections, then smooth Eco Styler gel throughout your hair in smaller parts in the four sections. After following the same procedure for all of your hair, let it air dry. (You can also use a diffuser on low heat to speed up the drying time.) When you wake up the next morning your hair won’t need any styling. You can literally get up and go. Your curls will be defined from the previous night’s styling. Talk about a morning time saver!
The fifth go-to quick style has to be one of my favorite natural hairstyles—the “high puff” as seen on @pharind16. To create this style you will need a long elastic headband that can be purchased at your local beauty supply store. This is the perfect style if you don’t have the time to prep your hair the night before. Gather your hair into a ponytail with the headband and push the headband up then stop in the middle since you want to create a puff and not an actual ponytail. Tease your hair with your fingers for added volume and you’re all done!
Hopefully these quick and easy hairstyles can help you tame your mane the next time you’re running late!
What are some of your favorite natural hairstyles for on the go?
Till next time Queens,
