Since entering the White House almost eight years ago, Michelle Obama has made her mark as First Lady. She is a fashion icon, devoted mother and wife, and has created global programs that continue to impact America’s future.
Let’s take a closer look at four core programs that Michelle Obama has developed.
Let’s Move!
Launched in 2010, Let’s Move!’s mission is to address the sweeping epidemic of childhood obesity. By bringing community leaders, educators, medical professionals, parents and others together, Let’s Move! brings healthier food to schools, helps kids be more active, and urges companies to market healthier food to our children so they make smarter food decisions.
Joining Forces
Joining Forces is a joint venture started by Michelle Obama and the Second Lady, Jill Biden. Since 2011 they have been calling on all Americans to rally around servicemembers’ and veterans’ families through education, employment, and wellness. Remember, when someone goes to service, their families are equally affected. It’s important that there are services to support them, too!
Let Girls Learn
Last year, Mrs. Obama joined her husband to launch a government-wide initiative to help girls around the world go to school and stay in school. The program, Let Girls Learn, calls for countries around the world to educate and empower young women.
