My children’s father goes, “Hey, for my birthday I would like a really good jacket to get me through these New York winters.” Now, if you live here you know our snowy winters can be brutal, especially when you are traveling via trains and buses. Standing outside waiting for the bus or walking to the train is no fun if you’re not properly layered.
So, my B.D. sends me a link to a Moncler. Yes, Moncler. The Moncler that easily costs $1,300 and up. We both knew the purchase was more wishful than realistic, but I did want to get him a nice coat that he would be able to keep for a long time. After all, not only is he one of my closest friends and supporters in all that I do, but he is also the best B.D. a woman could ask for.
After much research, we came across the North Face Men’s Cryo’s Expedition GTX Parka. While the price tag was still nothing pleasant to look at it, we decided this would be a worthwhile investment that he could keep for several years. Unlike most winter coats this one was fashionable with great texture. I swear you could literally wear this coat and nothing else underneath. That’s how warm it is. You can be standing outside in 10 degree weather and be hot as hell.
The fur around the hood is also a great addition. Soft, smooth, and looks luxurious. You can remove the fur or keep it on depending on your mood. My B.D. says it’s great when the snow is falling because instead of it hitting your face, which happens with most hoods, with the North Face the fur protects your face from getting wet.
The coat fits true to size, but if your special someone likes to wear sweaters or really bundle up, you may consider going one size up. My B.D. literally only wears T-shirts, so all the more reason to get him a warm coat, and he was able to get a Large and it fits perfectly. He didn’t mention the jacket is very big and heavy because of the insulation to keep you so warm, but the fit is very comfortable.
My B.D. says the North Face was worth the money I spent and he is super happy with the coat. “It lives up to the hype of being warm and resistant to the cold weather. I actually look forward to going out in the cold now, because I know I’m warm and protected from the high winds.”
