Creative Loves,
I know, I did it again—I went MIA for the past few weeks. My birthday celebrations took me on a whirlwind tour. I’m slowly catching back up. Check out my Instagram stories for behind-the-scenes looks.
I honestly can’t believe I have reached another birthday milestone. Thirty-five. Holy sh—! While I feel the same, I know things are completely different now. I’m expected to be more mature, more grownish, more responsible, more this and that. You’re mature enough to understand eating an apple a day is great for your health, but you’re still immature enough to stay out till 2 a.m. on a Wednesday knowing you have to be up by 7 for work.
Over the past thirty-five years there have been ups and downs, highs and lows, a lot of lessons but also a lot of happiness.
As I reflect on the past thirty-five years, here are 35 great joys on turning 35:
- True friends are closer than your family.
- Water is your best friend.
- Vegetables over sweets.
- Your maturity level for finances spike.
- You reach a certain level of acceptance quicker than most.
- Saying No no longer makes you feel guilty.
- No time for judgment or bull-ish.
- Time to take risks.
- Travel more. Friends, partner, family, you’re even okay traveling alone.
- Natural face. Makeup only on special occasions (these happen less and less and you begin to dread the days when they do).
- Family over hanging out. You rather enjoy a Friday movie night with the kids than the club scene.
- Your daily routine is on point!
- Facials, a weekly must.
- Communication—you’re a whiz at this.
- Open-minded. Nothing phases you anymore.
- You work out for your health, not to see the scale move.
- Your career goals change.
- The body changes (for me hormones balance out).
- Motherhood suits you.
- Netflix over barhopping.
- You’re grateful and blessed all the time.
- Decision making suits you.
- You’re young enough to be cool but old enough to be taken seriously.
- Nineties music is still popping.
- Laughter is a full-time job.
- Set goals and accomplish them.
- Target is the only store you have patience to shop at. Amazon is lit!
- Asking for help gets easier.
- Do for others.
- Get outside.
- People change on you.
- Crying is healthy.
- A daily dose of cranberry juice and probiotic yogurt has major health benefits.
- Allow plenty of ME time.
- You realize life isn’t over—it’s just beginning.
Turning thirty-five has humbled me, and I am grateful for where I am in life and the people I have in my corner.
