Our Engagement Story, Plus Expecting

Hello Mama Bears,

If you haven’t had time to read my latest post, “Hello Again!”, check it out where I introduce myself and the new blog scope.

In any case, if you haven’t heard the news: I’m engaged with a bun in the oven. Super excited! The engagement I knew was coming but wasn’t sure when it would happen. The baby bump, well, we all know 1+1-1=3, but we just didn’t think it would happen during COVID, ugh. Super nerve-racking trying to get through pregnancy during this pandemic. But anyhoo, here we are engaged and pregnant.

Future hubby (FH) and I met using the online app Bumble. We were both casually looking with no expectations and boom! a year after meeting he popped the question. For our one-year anniversary we decided to take a staycation in the city. We stayed in a suite at the Crowne Plaza–Times Square and went to see The Temptations on Broadway. I suspected nothing, even though looking back my type-A self should have known something was off from the way he was behaving. We made it to intermission and the show was amazing, a must-see if this pandemic ever goes away. Me with my uncontrollable bladder had to run to the bathroom at that point and the line was ridiculously long. Literally, we ladies were in line for almost twenty minutes. Over the loudspeaker we hear “you have five minutes to return to your seats.” Little did I know that announcement was for me, because I was taking entirely too long.

Finally, I made it back to my area and there was a crowd of people hovering around my FH, and I was still clueless. He walked up to me and muttered some words I still don’t remember but I do remember him getting down on one knee and pulling out a ring. I was shocked! Tons of questions roamed my mind; how did he plan this? OMG is this really happening right now? . . . Finally, I managed to say yes, still in shock. And I pushed him, asking him how he did this. Not to mention, FH is super shy and private yet we received a standing ovation from hundreds of people in the theater, congratulating us. So I had to ask him, “Mr. Private, did you decide to propose during intermission at a Broadway show where everyone literally has their phone out?” He said, “If I’m going to do it, I want to do it big.”

We returned to our seats, after receiving what seemed like thousands of hugs, congratulations, and “let me see the ring”s. I just remembered that we had a whole other act to get through. Of course, it was almost impossible to sit still throughout the balance of the show. However, somehow, we made it through and went back to the hotel lobby for drinks to celebrate and decompress. We called our family members and enjoyed being engaged.

When we went upstairs, he had the room decorated with rose petals and balloons and there was chocolate cake and champagne. Again, when the hell did he have time to plan all this?! The weekend was absolutely magical and truly one to remember.

Now come the usual questions: Everyone wants to know the who, what, when, and where. Well, honestly, me too. Between COVID-19 and me being pregnant it’s nearly impossible to plan a wedding. We were thinking of a 2021 date, but a lot of venues are booked with 2020 weddings that got pushed because of the virus. Therefore, now we are debating doing a 2021 elopement and a 2022 ceremony and reception. But with my craziness who knows what we will come up with.
