Kidpreneurs that Rock: Bella Chung

Start a slime business

Welcome to our Bear Cub Spotlight, introducing kidpreneurs that rock in business!

Business Ideas for kidpreneurs.

Today we spotlight:

Bella Chung, Kidpreneur

What inspired you to create Bella Slime Time and become a kidpreneur?

Bella loves making slime.  She asked for only slime supplies for her birthday.  We thought it was a phase and she would get bored with it. Fast forward 7 months and she was still making slime to give to her friends.  We went to a farmers market and there was a girl there selling slime.  She asked her uncle if he could help her make a slime shop.  We asked her what she would do with the money she made and she said I want to give it to children who are sick in the hospital. Three days later we all came together and her slime shop was up and running.

How do you come up with the ideas for your slime designs and concepts?

Bella comes up with all of her own ideas.  She makes a list of all of the slimes she wants to make and as she gets new ideas she adds them to the list.  Then she spends Wednesdays researching what supplies she will need to make about 3-4 slimes that weekend.

Has COVID affected your kidpreneur business at all and how are you pushing through?

The only affects we have seen is slower responses to get into farmers markets or craft fairs.  Things in person are slow right now.

Where do you market your slime business?

Bella has her own website bellaslimetime.com. She also has her own Instagram and Facebook.  As a family we all share and help promote her business.  Right now it is a lot of sharing and word of mouth.

As a kidpreneur, who helps you run Bella Slime Time?

Bella’s Uncle Brandon and Auntie Alexa help manage all of her social media and marketing.  Her mother Jessica handles creating all of her labels, helps with purchasing of supplies, and printing all of the shipping labels.  Bella does everything else and if she has an issue or cannot figure something out she will ask us to show her.  She never lets us just do it for her.

What advice do you tell your friends and peers if they want to become a kidpreneur too?

Go after your dreams, work hard, and stay true to yourself.

Bella Gives Back is your scholarship program giving slime to teachers, nurses, therapists, etc. who is in need of slime during these trying times: what motivated you to want to give back?

Bella’s grandma wanted to support Bella by giving her a donation to her business ,but did not have a need for slime.  Bella instead of just taking the money thought it would be a great idea to take her grandma’s donation and make slime with it to give to a class room or therapy unit that could benefit from the therapeutic and sensory aspects of slime.  She now takes applications on her websites for slime scholarships.  She is working on her 5th scholarship currently.

Bella has a sister with cerebral palsy so she has first hand seen how in person school and therapy being suspended has affected those with special needs.  It is so important to her that we can keep providing slime to those who support anyone with special needs.  It is her way of playing a small part in making a difference.
