Mama Bear Spotlight Sunday: Meet Mompreneur Poet Chela Mcclain

Every Sunday we will be spotlighting a mompreneur that rocks to be featured in our “Mama Bear Spotlight” series.

The Mama Bear Spotlight series was created to feature mompreneurs who are not only moms but also creators, writers, business owners, and more. These women are showing us how they balance motherhood, passion projects, businesses all while staying true to their inner self.

Poet Chela Mcclain

You have been writing poetry for over 15 years; what was your inspiration?

I had an assignment in middle school that required us to write a poem. I found out it was a great way to express myself and it helped my peers understand me.

Who are your favorite poets (dead/alive)?

I’ve always loved Maya Angelou. I also love a group called The Striver’s Row.

Magic, is a poem you wrote that shared your experiences while pregnant with your daughter; do you ever read this poem now and think about her being in the belly back then and where she is now?

Pictures help me reminisce more than anything.

Poet Chela Mcclain What is your writing process?

I just let things come to me. I don’t like having to feel like it’s forced. If I’m inspired but not able to write I’ll take notes for later. I use my phone a lot more than notebooks.

Do you feel social media has helped your writing journey or has it made the market more saturated?

It hasn’t helped as much as I’d hoped. I have a small audience so I don’t usually get noticed.  Currently,

your work is on Vocal – share with us why you chose this platform?

I hoped that I could inspire others and it would be another source of income.

Outside of poetry, you’re a model/photographer, how do you balance the many hats?

I focus on what’s feel needs my help the most at the moment.

As a writer, how do you connect with other writers?

Social media and open mics have been a big help.

Your goal is to a full-time entrepreneur/mompreneur, what would be your ideal business?

I would love to start a greeting card business.
