xoSelf (short for Love Yourself)) is a weekly advice series where women can anonymously seek advice on topics about relationships, work, finding themselves or life challenges. xoSelf is responded to by educator & life coach Dr. Walter Hidalgo.
Dear xoSelf: I am in a same sex marriage and my wife is super jealous of my career. I run a sports YouTube channel and blog, so I’m constantly around men who do try and flirt with me. I chalk it up as part of the business and it’s no sweat to me as long as they are respectful. She is super frustrated and annoyed by it. I told her I think she is being an insecure partner. Is there anything I can do to make her feel more secure?
Answer: Have you ever considered inviting her to see you in action? In other words, invite her to one of your work sites so she can get to know you better. Seeing you do what you love to do has the potential to strengthen your relationship because your partner gets to see you at your most optimal. This includes having her see you troubleshoot uncomfortable situations at the workplace as a sign of respect, loyalty and love that you have for her!
