DEAR THE VIRGO GIRL,
I’m terrified to meet my online boyfriend of two years because I was raped. A couple years ago, I was talking to someone online and we made arrangements to meet up. Instead of it being only him, it was him and his friends that raped now. Now I’m in a relationship of someone I love dearly but afraid to meet him. He’s super sweet and willing to meet in a public place or place of my choice but I can’t move passed the fear that something will still happen. Will I ever get over this?
Advice from Dr. Walter Hidalgo: In a #meTOO era it is understandable to have those fears and concerns. The trauma associated with rape and being violated has long term effects but it certainly can be defeated. After all, no human is made alike. What I recommend you do is to meet up in a public place, so that in the event that anything happens, you have witnesses. Online dating, whether short term or long term, is always risky, especially in the age of catfishing. So, create expectations and demands of your partner by setting the stage – safe, secure and loving.
