A good ole fashion email can land partnerships with brands, other bloggers and even build corporate relationships. Knowing how to effectively communicate through email will make or break you in this industry. We share the must have email etiquette you should follow.
Why Email?
Telephone calls have been quickly replaced by e-mail correspondence. The days of communicating through phone conversations are nearly over. A quick e-mail can not only reach people all across the globe, but can close some serious deals (partnerships). As bloggers, we are constantly networking and looking to partner, therefore, it is imperative that people are able to quickly and easily get in contact with us without having to go on a scavenger hunt to find us.
Make your Contact Info Visible
For starters, your e-mail address should be very visible on all your social media pages: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Don’t send someone to your website to find your e-mail. Public relations specialists, social media managers, and other potential partners want to be able to quickly communicate with you. This is test #1. If they can’t find your e-mail address with a quick glance and a click then they may assume you don’t want to be contacted about work.
On your website’s Contact page, even with a contact form field, list your e-mail address either above or below it. This is great for when someone needs to send an attachment or simply wants to e-mail you directly.
Do Not Delay on Responding
Unanswered or seriously delayed e-mails are a huge pet peeve; well, I know they are for me. In terms of a brand or potential partnership opportunity this can be rude and misleading and result in either a missed opportunity or being permanently removed from the person or company’s database. Do not let your e-mail pile up. Try and respond to e-mails within 24–48 hours of receipt. If you are a slow responder and it takes you a full one to two days to answer, set up an automatic reply. Just don’t fall completely silent.
We’ve all experienced the pain of e-mails gone unanswered, along with a follow-up and thought, “Damn, how about a simply reply that at least says ‘No thanks’?” Replying in a timely manner is incredibly important in the land of virtual business; even Facebook rewards you with different features based on your response time.
