DEAR THE VIRGO GIRL,

I’m 35 and in love with a married man that I met on Tinder a few years ago. We’ve met a few times to hang out, but have never been intimate. Our relationships started when I was married and he was having trouble in his marriage. We instantly became really good friends and grew strong feelings for each other. My relationship ended in physical abuse, but he is still in his and says its because of the children. I don’t have children and don’t want to begin to understand, but I’m at a lost. I’m not one of those women that believe he will leave his wife, I honestly, don’t think I care or want him too – but I can’t help to want to be intimate with him. I want to him in my life even if its just a friend. Am I wrong to be so selfish? Even if we aren’t intimate and remain friends am I a bad person?

Advice from Missy:  There are many relationships that outgrow each other.  However, one of the challenges of leaving long-term relationships includes leaving behind (or bringing with you) what you collectively created over the course of your time together – i.e. children. It’s not selfish for you or any adult in a rocky relationship to begin thinking about themselves cause ultimately we all want to feel complete…whole….loved!   However, it sounds like you are not allowing yourself to heal or regroup your thoughts as it relates to your own personal growth.  Being in a relationship that was abusive requires time to heal and sometimes we look for immediate gratification by starting a new relationship.
