Relax and Restore with Acupressure
In 2019, I am all about #selfcare, mental tranquility, and relaxation. Jessica, from Dosha Mat, reached out to me at the perfect time about trying the Dosha Mat. The Dosha Mat is an acupressure mat for relieving tension, soreness, and pain in the back, head, neck and other parts of the body.
As a career-driven mom of two who runs a blog as she juggles whatever craziness life decides to throw at me that day, STRESS has literally been scheduled into my calendar. No BS. I can legit tell you when the next panic attack is about to happen. By 11:00 a.m. my honey is calling to check in to see if I answered the phone or checked emails that will lead to me being stressed before noon. Stress for me = tension headaches, neck pain, and anxiety (chest pains).

So, as you can see the Dosha Mat was much needed in my life! I have to admit I was hesitant when the Dosha Mat first arrived. Sleek, light, and in my favorite color—purple—I thought, Hmm . . . how can this cute little mat actually solve my neck issues or reduce my tension headaches and stress?!
Currently, I have adopted a whole new lifestyle in preparing my body for a little one. I’ve started walking 45 minutes a day and cut back on sugar (oh the pain),fried foods, and doing Zumba. The one thing I’ve had a really hard time doing is staying still long enough to calm my mind. We often focus so much on our physical health that we forget our mental health is just as important.
I went to YouTube to find a few beginner yoga positions that would possibly help me stay still and I found one I really loved. Viparita Karani, often referred to as the “legs up the wall” position, is great for reducing stress and refreshes the reproductive area. This position, combined with the Dosha Mat, has been life-changing for me. I started off with five minutes and quickly advanced to ten and fifteen minutes. I love it!
The first time you use the mat, I won’t lie, there’s an instant prickly feeling that will take you a minute to warm up to—unless you’re already heavy into acupuncture on the regular. The more you use it you will definitely see and feel results. I’m sensitive when it comes to massages and any kind of hands-on stress treatment. I use the mat for about five to fifteen minutes depending on the body part. Some areas are more sensitive than others.
Here are my three favorite ways to use the Dosha Mat
Between career work and blogging, I’m on the computer eight to twelve hours a day. At midday it’s time to use the Dosha Mat for ten to fifteen minutes to soothe my nerves.
Second shift, as I like to call it, is #momDuty. No chance I’ll get to sit down and have a five-minute breather. The best way for me to reduce the stress from the day is to stand on the Dosha Mat while preparing snacks for my two little “bosses.”
#MeTime: Finally, I can concentrate on my needs. I close the evening with journaling and fifteen minutes of yoga on the Dosha Mat.
I’ve been using the mat for ninety days now and I honestly feel so much better. I have more energy, can get a good night’s sleep, and don’t feel as tense. You can decide how often and how long you want to use the mat. But this is a must-have for calming down and reducing stress!
