MEET SUPERSTAR BUSINESS COACH BILLIE SHARP

1. As a business coach that helps small businesses become profitable and substantial, what is the first thing you teach your clients?

That the foundation of your business is THE most important thing.

If you have 2 houses in the same street;

House 1 is built with prefabricated panels, they are built off-site and then shipped and installed on-site. It is built within 6 months and you saved thousands.

House 2  is built with a steel frame, constructed on-site by experienced and respected tradesmen. It was around 7% more to build than house 1 and it took almost 12 months to complete.

A hurricane comes through, which house survives? House 1 needs to be completely rebuilt there is nothing left, you have to start all over again. House 2 is damaged but it is only cosmetic and can be back to normal very quickly.

The foundation of your business needs to be able to withstand a lot.

2. What does success in business mean to you?

I help business owners align their values with their business, to create sustainable success, and for every person that is unique. My opinion on your version of success is irrelevant.

3. What is a challenge that business coach Billie Sharp faces in her business and how do you push through it?

The guilt. Trying to do everything for everyone + running a successful business is TOUGH! I have been on a self-discovery journey for over 7 years and the guilt is real. My favorite technique for the guilt is to journal, get it all out, remind myself, success does not come without sacrifice and I am in control of the guilt, my family doesn’t feel that way, I am making myself feel that way.

4. Are there any systems/programs you use to help with time management and organization to better your business’s success?

I love Google Workspace. It helps keep everything organized and easy to access for all of my staff. We have weekly staff meetings so everyone knows what is going on.

5. The coaching industry has definitely skyrocketed over the last couple of years; do you find the competition is higher than usual and how do you stand apart as a business coach?

I am aware that it is a very saturated industry but I never feel as if I have a lot of competition. I try to work and advertise in ‘MY ZONE’. Knowing what sets you apart is the first step to being able to work within your own zone. I help REAL humans get REAL results so I am very raw and honest. People either love that or hate that.

6. In your opinion what do you think hinders entrepreneurs from becoming profitable more often than not?

People undervalue themselves, they come up with a price based on the wrong reasons. Your price should be a combination of maths and science, it should be carefully formulated.

7. How should an entrepreneur go about getting leads when they are brand new to digital marketing?

You need to walk before you can run. Do organic marketing first. Don’t go and waste a heap of money on paid advertising. Your organic method needs to be working before you do that.

8. What systems/programs do you use to help with time management and organization to better your business success as a business coach?

I love Schedule Once and I am a huge color coder. Everything has a color based on priority so we know if it can be moved or rescheduled.

9. What is a typical day like for you? How many hours do you spend on your business? Please breakdown by hours (7:00 am, 8:00 am etc.)

I am at my desk, in my office 3 days a week (Tue, Wed, Thur). I usually start around 4.00 am and work until my daughter wakes up. Then I go back to work when she goes to school at 8.30 am and I work until my husband and daughter are home, which is usually around 3.00 pm. My time is usually spent on Zoom with clients or assisting my team with their projects.

10. What books would you recommend for entrepreneurs to read? Any books that inspire you?

I really loved The Awakened Woman by Dr. Tererai Trent. Most of the books I read are fiction, I like to escape in my book, get out of my own head for a bit.

11. How did you grow your customer base and following?

I show up, all of the time, everywhere. Wherever I think my clients are, I go. I am never looking to sell to anyone. I am always looking to genuinely support and help.

12. How do you balance social media marketing and the day-to-day administrative tasks of running a business coach firm?

It is not easy at the start. I worked a lot more hours when I had to do everything myself. As soon as I could I hired my first VA. I now have 3 casual VA’s that manage and curate my social accounts

13. Which platform do you find the most successful for service-based businesses?

It really depends on your business, even service-based is such a broad term. I would recommend finding out statistically where your clients hang out and then live and breathe it.

14. Who is your inspiration?

I am just inspired to be the best version of myself.

15. If you could remove one task from your daily to-do list of being an entrepreneur; which task would it be?

It might sound cliche but I really enjoy my job. The business was my hobby before it was my business, I love to work, I know that sounds crazy but it’s true.

16. Just starting out…first three tips for an entrepreneur?

  1. Money will not solve your problems, so stop throwing money at them.
  2. Only focus on the things you can control, if you can’t control it move on.
  3. The faster you get your product to the market the faster you can start to make money.

17. What goals do you have for 2022 for business coach Billie Shar and can you give us an example of your action plan to accomplish one of those goals?

2022 is all about consistency. We will be clearing out our low selling products and streamlining our entire process. Less is more.
