Oprah Winfrey is one of TVs most influential personalities. When The Oprah Winfrey Show debuted in 1986, she broke the stereotype for women on TV, especially black women on TV. With rumors of a 2020 presidential run in the air (we’re holding our breath in anticipation!), there doesn’t seem to be anything she can’t do or be willing to try her hand at. She would be one presidential candidate we can stand behind.
Oprah’s over-the-top personality (remember the time she pulled a wagon of the fat she lost?) and her generous acts of kindness (she opened the Leadership Academy for Girls), have led her to change the way we live. Here we share a few ways Oprah Winfrey has influenced women.
Her Book Club
Oprah made reading “cool” again for women of all ages. Carefully picking books to learn from and be inspired by, she promoted a book each month. Of course each book went viral, leading to the world literally reading more books!

She gave us “The Secret”
Oprah isn’t afraid to ask for what she wants. Sharing her beliefs with her audiences she credited her success to the power of the Law of Attraction. She teaches that you have to ask the universe for what you deserve.

She gave You a Car, You a Car, and YOU a Car!
In 2004, Oprah hosted an unforgettable giveaway, giving 276 members of her handpicked audience a new car. This giveaway set the bar for future giveaways and “aha moments”.
