If you’re in the Washington, D.C. area this Saturday, December 7th, consider this your personal invitation to attend Sensoria at the Arena Stage. Sensoria offers a gallery of over 20 local artists with a variety of paintings, photography, dolls, body art, authors, culinary and more. The night doesn’t end there, as the Sensoria concert begins, entitled, “No Degrees of Separation”, a 2019 full-length story of love and life created by using a variety of style through dancing, spoken word, contortion, comedy, singing and painting.
Sensoria is presented by New Renaissance Performing Arts Company which uses some of their own dancers including the owner, DaRyus O’Neil.
DaRyus O’Neil a.k.a. Dr. Renaissance is the creator of Sensoria. Dr. Renaissance a member of the D.M.V. dance scene since 2006, believes “in the execution of real hip-hop, as well as the successful marriage of multiple authentic forms of art”.
“Sensoria means when thought and feeling come together. Being an artist, is the same as being at an intersection, you’re between a thought and a feeling and you want to create within that feeling. Sensoria is a playground where artists can play, they are able to create and their creations can thrive. Our message to the community is “Unity”. The stories we perform bleed in and out of each other. Over four chapters, we share different stories that are composed within our community.
This show was created not only for the artists to share their talents and stories, but to raise awareness within our communities. In the concert, we have a Latin-inspired piece, we showcase anti-police brutality, domestic violence, even a dance performance by a hearing impaired woman. At Sensoria, we recognize everyone, no man or woman is left out. You may not have experienced what we share, but you may know someone who has or at minimum, you walk away with the understanding of the message.
We not only entertain, we educate.” – DaRyus O’Neil
Sensoria is all about giving back and has chosen The Covenant House to receive a financial donation for “providing opportunity and hope to homeless youth” in the D.C. area.
Head out and experience the show of a lifetime dedicated to the arts and human connection.
