Should I Pinterest for my Passion Business?

One of the emerging trends in social media is Pinterest boards. The service is simple, easy to use, and has a very clean interface.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest’s description from its website: Pinboards filled with ideas for all your projects and interests organized in thousands of categories so you can find what you’re looking for through people who inspire you.

In a nutshell, Pinterest allows you to create different content collections by “pinning” images from around the web onto themed boards. It’s an old school behind my bed college gone digital.

At first glance, it seems like Pinterest would be an excellent way for your passion business to get exposure. The most considerable question ringing in your mind is, “should I use Pinterest for my passion business?”

Demographics of Pinterest

Pinterest has rapidly become one of the most popular social sharing and bookmarking sites on the web. The demographics of Pinterest users are fascinating. So, who exactly is using Pinterest?

According to Omnicore, Pinterest has 478 million registered users as of June 2021, although it is unclear how many active members there are at this point.

Women primarily use Pinterest, but men are jumping on board as well. Currently, Pinterest business says that 60% of Pinterest users are female and 40% are male. Of these users, 97% of top Pinterest searches are unbranded. So, if you are new and your niche is women-focused, keep Pinterest in mind.

Also, an exciting fact, 50%+ of Pinterest users are out of the US. Were you thinking of taking your passion business international or at least creating an international following?

Top Three Types of Pins on Pinterest

1. Inspirational quotes

Who doesn’t love a good quote? Whether we want motivation for a hectic day or a reassuring thought for a bad time, checking out quotes makes us feel better.

2. News articles
News articles are another example of content that you might want to share through your Pinterest accounts.

3. Videos

Videos have been trending on all social medias, and Pinterest is on that bandwagon. Pinterest videos will play automatically in your home feed, search results, and the boards you save them to.

How Pinterest helps Business Owners attract Traffic to their Website

A Pinterest account allows you to pin images from your website onto different boards. This makes it easy for other users to see what you have on offer. The image is linked back to your website when a person clicks on your pin. So, this creates traffic as it will take people directly to your webpage.

It’s all about Time

Pinterest is all about sharing images. On the other hand, there’s no denying that Pinterest has an air of exclusivity surrounding it. The service is visually intense and requires a fair bit of time investment to create boards and constantly populate them with pins. In many cases, the average user doesn’t have time to make a lot of boards and regularly update those boards with engaging pins. So, if you can commit the time and Pinterest reaches your demographic, I would recommend it.

What Does This Mean for Your Passion Business?

The best way to think about Pinterest and how it relates to your passion brand is that Pinterest can inspire you and your audience. You don’t necessarily need to create a lot of boards and pins, but if what you’re doing inspires others, then other people will naturally want to share your images based on your brand.

Bottom Line

So, is Pinterest a good fit for your passion business? It depends. If you’re passionate about something that has broad appeal and lends itself to being visually represented (like fashion or food), then Pinterest may be a great marketing tool for you. However, if your passion business is more obscure or esoteric in nature, it might not reach as many people on Pinterest as you’d like.
