As a business owner, especially an entrepreneur, I used to sit around and wonder what I would or could do over again. If I had the proper training, I think I would have had a long list of possibilities, but never certainties. Then one day I discovered I was happy with me and never would hold another grudge, regret, or be discontent about the past because it would only make me old and gray.
I began to think of “time” and simply what it meant to move forward instead of backward. Moving, whether it’s at a fast or slow pace, forces us to change. In business it makes us wiser, forces us to take risks, makes us calculate costs, etc. It pushes us to consider each and every moment we have and how it’ll ultimately impact the money we make. It drives us to think about what we did with the time that was valuable then, but more precious now. Today, I paused and looked time in the face. I stood around and time stopped. I smelled the air, I felt the wind, I saw people’s faces, I embraced the moment, and I looked time in the face and it said hello. I began to see big and little people, gray and blond hair. I began to see improvements in areas and I began to see life transitions. I then realized that time has never been on my side. It’s the one thing that intimidates me. It’s the one thing that makes me shake in my boots because I wonder is my time really well spent.
The time we have is to be spent making lasting memories and seeing a change in you. It’s to be spent building up one another and living life to the fullest. It’s about preserving self and filling your cup with so much love that you have no need to look for it elsewhere. Time is meant to teach you new tricks and tactics so you can fulfill a vision for the next season. We often say time is something you can’t get back. Honestly, we know we can’t get it back, but we can recycle it by cherishing moments and stories. Time can sometimes be cruel and seem so unfair. But it has no emotion, no desire, no decision, and no repentance. It’s time and it expects us to treat it with the utmost respect because after all you get what you give. Investment is important.
In your business, move forward with intention. Understand that the money, business, partners, etc. will always be there if your work ethic is there. Time has taught me that when I grind I need to make sure it’s productive. I need to ensure it’s going to pay off because it can’t cut into my personal time. Balance is mentioned often but the learned skill is sold short. As we begin this year, balance your life well. Make the time count!
