What Does it Mean to be Still?

BeStill

Every once in a while you come to a place in life where it seems you’ve hit a wall. Your emotions are in an uproar. Your mind is tangled, you’re not sure if you should go left or right. It seems everything is coming at you from all directions. Ugh! What do you do?! You do what’s normal, right? You make moves, do what you can, make it happen by any means necessary. Wrong . . . You sit still . . . This is likely the hardest thing you’ll ever do and you’ll have to repeat it often. Let me share with you the beauty of stillness.

In many situations, you’ll come to a point where you’ve literally done all you can. You can’t seem to get the pieces to connect so I offer this advice: Do what you’ve never done before. Sit still. Being still forces you to pause and reflect. It brings perspective. It makes you step back and see what you’ve been missing. It allows you to do the one thing you’ve never done before—nothing! Being still brings the beauty out of every situation; it allows you to release your emotions, mental anguish, and pull back, surrendering all your deep thoughts. It makes you reach your “I can’t” point faster to avoid a breaking moment! In stillness there’s preservation.

Preserving your mind and peace is what happens in your moment of stillness. Pausing will equal the protection you need to make it through the next moment after you’re done with your stillness. The next time you’re in a panic state try pausing and being still. Try and remember these three things when in your state of stillness:

  1. Your moment of panic is temporary. There’s always a storm before a rainbow appears. Eventually, things lighten up and light shines.
  2. Remember who you are. Take a step back and think about the bigger picture. When we’re in panic mode things seem cloudy. Get quiet so you can hear and see.
  3. Know that you’re in that situation to learn something. No matter how big or small, learning is key to avoid a cycle. Don’t brush past your learning moment.

Being still could be an awesome place to be. Take it, learn from it, and become a better you simply by slowing down and being still.
