xoSelf: I want to Become a Full-time Author

xoSelf (short for Love Yourself)) is a weekly advice series where women can anonymously seek advice on topics about relationships, work, finding themselves or life challenges. xoSelf is responded to by educator & life coach Dr. Walter Hidalgo.

Dear xoSelf:  I work in a corporation and hate my job. I love to write, but we all know writing doesn’t pay very well. I currently make over six figures and know for sure that I can’t make that with writing novels; at least not in the beginning. I am so miserable though – I spend all day at work thinking of new story ideas. How can I reach a happy medium to become a full-time author?

Answer: I recommend not leaving your primary income job until you are financially stable and capable of altering your life to pursue your dream(s) of becoming a full-time author.  However, what you do before 9 am and after 5 pm (working hours) should be utilized to work on your writing endeavors.  As someone once said, we all have 24 hours in a day so use it to the best of your ability.
